Details

Soof is an embroidery form that has been practiced in Kutch by women artisans for centuries. It comprises of geometric patterns that women artisans spend hours meticulously stitching onto cloth.

The name 'soof' comes from the fine triangular shapes (suf) that form the basis of this craft.

What makes Soof truly special -

  • Artisans don’t rely on any sketches or pre-drawn designs. They visualize the patterns in their minds as they go & bring it to life directly on the fabric. What you get is a  stunning & perfectly symmetrical design.
  • The embroidery itself is done on the reverse side of the fabric. The artisans use satin stitch to fill in the areas with thread to form the patterns & shapes that make up the design. The real magic happens when the fabric is turned over!
  • Soof is highly durable! Because of the way the fabric is stitched, the designs don’t fray or wear out easily, making these textiles not just beautiful, but also long-lasting.

These patches can be used to adorn -

  • Choli/ blouse, kurta, dupatta, shawl;
  • Bed spreads, cushion covers, toran;
  • Wall hangings and table runners.
